What Even Are Greeting Cards?

Greeting cards are basically an ancient way of sending goodwill messages to family and friends both far and near, and can be traced back to the early ages as far back as the early 15th century. The ancient Chinese used to exchange messages of goodwill to celebrate the New Year. The early Egyptians used greeting cards too. They conveyed their greetings on papyrus scrolls, which gave birth to the use and exchange of cards as greetings.

By the 1850s, the greeting card had been transformed from a relatively expensive, handmade and hand-delivered gift to a popular and affordable means of personal communication, due largely to advances in printing, mechanization, and a reduction in postal rates with the introduction of the postage stamp.

Greeting cards are mechanically, electronically, or digitally made illustrated greetings containing an expression of friendship or other wishes; usually greeting cards are exchanged during festive seasons like Christmas, graduation, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, annual celebrations such as birthdays or summer holidays. Wedding cards are another great use for greeting cards. Greeting cards are sent to convey appreciation or express other intimate or personal feelings. Greeting cards are not just a small piece of printed paper or hand painted card, they have lots of importance in building and preserving human relationships.

Greeting cards come in various forms and types, most types have a purpose for the message they are intended to convey.  They also come in different templates of designs; greeting card designs or types may also come in the digital form like an e-card, or in a video greeting card like MemoryTag creates, which allows you to play a video on your phone by scanning a sticker on the inside of the greeting card.

Types of greeting cards according to event they represent includes wedding greeting cards, summer vacation greeting cards, birthday cards, seasonal holiday cards, and sometimes might be the card to console someone in a sad event or occurrence.
